Husband, Wife & Kiddo!

My monthly visit to a ‘barber shop’ or more attuned to modern times, a hair artist’s den, entrusts me with moments that can be carved out as anecdotes in a casual gathering with friends as the observed mannerisms turn ethereal. A wide range of clientele flocks to this joint to get their unruly manes domesticized, the greed for a paled face by subjecting to a four legged contraption or beauty machine that turns them to demigods in seconds time!

While I was getting my regular cut by the stylist, but without much style to speak of as I prefer a regular, harmless reduction in the tress, a family ambled in with a hyper active prodigy. As the child was respectfully seated, a shower of instructions marked the beginning of a ‘ritualistic’ hair cut. Both the dad and mom were equivocal; with an array of ideas for their little one’s looks. The dad with a powdered white appearance had a wide gold chain for the world to see as he believed in unbuttoning the frontal face of his shirt. The hands and fingers were equally golden and could easily pass on for a mannequin in a jewel shop if not for his thick black moustache.

They could be heard above the din in the shop even in the midst of a cricket match aired on the TV, the bollywood songs from the FM radio and the regular commotion all around in the ambience. I had the misfortune to see the enormous saga as the mirror facing me was telecasting it live and exclusive during my hair cut. The dad kept circling back and forth with discussions of a business deal over the glossy cell phone, the gist could be understood even by the ‘local-language-challenged’ me. The queen took charge in his absence and was crammed in between the stylist, the chair and it evoked some hidden smiles all around. Well, she might be the one wearing pants occasionally.

All through this, the child and his growth, a tit bit of intimacy and the sweet smiles completed the drama for the spectators as bonus, leaving the shop for a roaring laughter as they left the stage!!!
