On Bench!
Monday, August 20, 2007This doesn’t have any relation to the good old school days where everyone is introduced to education, seated on a wooden bench along with fellow students who all crave for ‘learning’. This is a familiar term being used extensively in the professional world of Information Technology, especially in the companies that cater for IT. Though a formal word definition cannot be derived, it ideally points to the act of a person not formally engaged to any assignment – a state where the subject is less absorbed, a preferable expression than indicating an idle scenario.
This has been precisely my condition for the past one week. Fortunate enough, this is the first time in my career where I have been formally in this. I could recollect similar experiences of my friends who boasted about the times they have spent lazing away. It brings a ray of hope, a state of peace to the real busy schedules that one goes through while at work. I took it in a very ‘sportive’ way, browsing through various techno journals, reading news etc.
As time passed, I saw it cumbersome to engross in something useful. The readings, the tutorials have been found worthless when the urge to learn them was missing which is nothing but the project to which one is allocated to. Also, the experiments to learn new things proved irritating. I have resorted to leaving early from office end up reading something at home or watching a movie or even writing like these!
I do look forward for my earlier routine, which ultimately makes me happy!
