My roommate has been bitten by the onsite bug since January. There was an attempt to resign from his current organization and move for greener pastures. The company, like every other gave him multitude of counter offers including an assured onsite trip. A nice diplomatic move and he shouldn’t be blamed of. I guess I would have done the same in that state of mind. Seems like the organization recognized his out of the box talents now and was quite ‘impressed’ by him. This was the version we could hear of and didn’t dare asking him the facts behind it though.
Now comes the famous twist in the story. Though initially planned for Europe, it was later deviated to be the Americas. He has been giving us hopes about leaving pretty soon . And as loyal and trustworthy friends, we kept pulling his legs every other day asking about the dates and all possible trivia’s for irritating him. Some of them even went to the extent of giving lists of items to be shopped from there. I guess I should add about the fact that he gave a treat to couple of us for the onsite chance.
Days and months passed and finally by mid April, there was a ray of hope. All of a sudden, last week, things got sorted out and he was all set to go. Quite surprising that we all went home as it was a festival back home in our native states. Yesterday was the big day for his shipment . It was a real chaotic environment when I reached home back from office. He was in a muddle of packing things, reiterating himself about the items to be carried. There were his colleagues and all of us helping him out in sorting things and to keep his calm. I do remember some funny moments here and there regarding his questions.
And finally, he took the taxi and I could hear him shouting out – please get the laptop!!!!!!! We all burst out laughing with a hope that he took the tickets and passport!
