MOM - 'Minutes' of Meeting !

Wednesday, May 02, 2007

We all end up in doing lots of meetings a week. Couple of them could be technical, some sessions on emerging technologies and others could be team meetings - the ones in which all the team members meet up and discuss on things. Though I meet my team everyday and we all sit in adjacent cubicles, this tends to be a forum for more initiatives. Well, some of these meetings could be the typical time pass ones where in attending itself is a great sacrifice.

And as a part of the great quality protocol, it is intended to capture the minutes of meeting or MOM as it is affectionately called. We decided to incorporate this as well in our meetings. And being responsible, I quickly 'delegated' the task to another team member of mine and with some corporate jargons accompanying the decision. It went like this - 'This might give you more insight to the processes followed, gives more room for proactiveness' and other dialogues which I found suitable and was able to recollect at that time.

Well this team member was actively involved in scribbling down things during the course of the meeting. I was happy in seeing as this could be a good capture of events of the meeting. After the meeting I casually asked him – “So, did you capture the meeting minutes?”

His reply stunned me – “Yes, Arun, I did the same. It is 39 minutes.” I was dumbfounded and didn't know whether to laugh. I quietly moved to my cubicle with smiles in my mind !!
